How Blue Flame Books and All Came to Be: My teenage daughter and I started this online business to provide a safe way for her to earn spending money. Unfortunately, we live in an age where intelligent, entrepreneurial young people are not able to earn an honest buck doing the kinds of things we may have done at their age, i.e. paper route, lawn care, babysitting etc.
We started out just selling books but as people gave us books, they wanted us to take their stuff too, so we did. We sell the books on exclusive book sites like Alibris, AbeBooks, and Biblio. We sell the "stuff" on eCrater. We have a large family so we worked on it when we could. My daughter is older now and she thinks running an online store is boring and she wants to get a "real" job. So now I work the store in between raising a family of 5 children on my own and she busses tables at a local restaurant.
I spend what little free time I have sleuthing yard sales, auctions and flea markets for interesting items to offer in our store. We still get lots of things from family and friends to sell and it’s a great way for them to support our efforts and we appreciate it.
